ੴ ਸਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਿਰਵੈਰੁ ਅਕਾਲ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਅਜੂਨੀ ਸੈਭੰ ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

Ik Onkar Sat Naam Karta Purakh Nirbhau Nirvair Akaal Moorat Ajooni Saibhang Gurprasad.

"One Universal Creator God. The Name Is Truth. Creative Being Personified. No Fear. No Hatred. Image Of The Undying. Beyond Birth. Self-Existent. By Guru's Grace."

ਸੋਚੈ ਸੋਚਿ ਨ ਹੋਵਈ ਜੇ ਸੋਚੀ ਲਖ ਵਾਰ ॥

Sochai soch na hovai je sochi lakh vaar.

"By thinking, He cannot be reduced to thought, even by thinking hundreds of thousands of times."

ਹੁਕਮੈ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਹੁਕਮ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥

Hukmai andar sabh ko, baahar hukam na koi.

"Everyone is subject to His Command; no one is beyond His Command."

ਅਨੰਦੁ ਭਇਆ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਾਏ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਮੈ ਪਾਇਆ ॥

Anand bhaia meri maae satguru mai paaia.

"I am in bliss, O my mother, for I have found the True Guru."

ਤੇਰਾ ਕੀਆ ਮੀਠਾ ਲਾਗੈ ॥ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਮਾਂਗੈ ॥

Tera kiya meetha laage. Har naam padaarath Nanak maange.

"Your will is sweet to me. Nanak begs for the treasure of Your Name."

ਸਾਸਿ ਸਾਸਿ ਸਿਮਰਹੁ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ॥ ਮਨ ਅੰਤਰ ਕੀ ਉਤਰੈ ਚਿੰਦ ॥

Saas saas simrahu Gobind. Man antar ki utrai chind.

"With each and every breath, meditate in remembrance on the Lord of the Universe. The anxiety within your mind shall be dispelled."

ਭੈ ਕਾਹੂ ਕਉ ਦੇਤ ਨਹਿ ਨਹਿ ਭੈ ਮਾਨਤ ਆਨ ॥

Bhai kaahu kau det nahi, nahi bhai maanat aan.

"One who does not frighten anyone, and who is not frightened by anyone."

ਮਨੁ ਜੀਤੈ ਜਗੁ ਜੀਤੁ ॥

Man jeetai jag jeet.

"One who conquers the mind, conquers the world."

ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਤ ਹੋਇ ਨਿਹਕਾਮੀ ॥ ਤਿਸ ਕਉ ਹੋਤ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥

Seva karat hoi nihkaami. Tis kau hot praapat suaami.

"One who performs selfless service, without thought of reward, shall attain the Lord Master."

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮ ਚੜ੍ਹਦੀ ਕਲਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਭਾਣੇ ਸਰਬੱਤ ਦਾ ਭਲਾ ॥

Nanak Naam Chardi Kala, Tere Bhaane Sarbat Da Bhala.

"O Nanak, with the Naam comes Chardi Kala (ever-rising spirit); by Your will, may there be welfare for all."

ਕਿਰਤ ਕਰੋ, ਨਾਮ ਜਪੋ, ਵੰਡ ਛਕੋ ॥

Kirat karo, Naam Japo, Vand Chakko.

"Earn an honest living, meditate on God's Name, and share with others."

ਪਵਣੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਣੀ ਪਿਤਾ ਮਾਤਾ ਧਰਤਿ ਮਹਤੁ ॥

Pavan guru, paani pita, maata dharat mahat.

"Air is the Guru, Water is the Father, and the Great Earth is the Mother."

ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਵਾਹਿ ਜੀਉ ॥

Waheguru Waheguru Waheguru Wahi Jio.

"Wonderful Lord, Wonderful Lord, Wonderful Lord, O Wonderful Life!"

ਆਦਿ ਸਚੁ ਜੁਗਾਦਿ ਸਚੁ ॥ ਹੈ ਭੀ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਹੋਸੀ ਭੀ ਸਚੁ ॥

Aad sach jugaad sach. Hai bhi sach Nanak hosi bhi sach.

"True In The Primal Beginning. True Throughout The Ages. True Here And Now. O Nanak, Forever And Ever True."

ਸੋ ਦਰੁ ਕੇਹਾ ਸੋ ਘਰੁ ਕੇਹਾ ਜਿਤੁ ਬਹਿ ਸਰਬ ਸਮਾਲੇ ॥

So dar kehaa so ghar kehaa jit bahi sarab samaale.

"Where is that gate, and where is that house, in which You sit and take care of all?"

ਸੋ ਦਰੁ ਕੇਹਾ ਸੋ ਘਰੁ ਕੇਹਾ ਜਿਤੁ ਬਹਿ ਸਰਬ ਸਮਾਲੇ ॥

ਮੰਨੇ ਕੀ ਗਤਿ ਕਹੀ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥ ਜੇ ਕੋ ਕਹੈ ਪਿਛੈ ਪਛੁਤਾਇ ॥

Manne ki gat kahi na jaai. Je ko kahai pichhhai pachhutaai.

"The state of the faithful cannot be described. One who tries to describe it, shall regret the attempt."

ਮੰਨੇ ਕੀ ਗਤਿ ਕਹੀ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥ ਜੇ ਕੋ ਕਹੈ ਪਿਛੈ ਪਛੁਤਾਇ ॥

Bhau khaana peena bhau bhau kar kar khaao.

"Let the Fear of God be your food and drink; eat and drink with the Fear of God."

ਭਉ ਖਾਣਾ ਪੀਣਾ ਭਉ ਭਉ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਖਾਉ ॥

Bhau khaana peena bhau bhau kar kar khaao.

"Let the Fear of God be your food and drink; eat and drink with the Fear of God."

ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਹੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੁਣਹੁ ਨਾਮੇ ਰਹਹੁ ਸਮਾਇ ॥

Naam japahu naam sunahu naame rahahu samaai.

"Chant the Name, hear the Name, and remain absorbed in the Name."

ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਹੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੁਣਹੁ ਨਾਮੇ ਰਹਹੁ ਸਮਾਇ ॥

Naam japahu naam sunahu naame rahahu samaai.

"Chant the Name, hear the Name, and remain absorbed in the Name."

ਜਿਨੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਗਏ ਮਸਕਤਿ ਘਾਲਿ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇ ਮੁਖ ਉਜਲੇ ਕੇਤੀ ਛੁਟੀ ਨਾਲਿ ॥

ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰਾ ਪਿਤਾ ਤੂੰਹੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਾਤਾ ॥ ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰਾ ਬੰਧਪੁ ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰਾ ਭ੍ਰਾਤਾ ॥

Toon mera pita toonhai mera maata. Toon mera bandhap toon mera bhraata.

ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਨੂੰ ਹਾਲੁ ਮੁਰੀਦਾਂ ਦਾ ਕਹਣਾ ॥

"What should I ask for? Nothing remains permanent. With my own eyes, I see the world passing away."

ਕਿਆ ਮਾਗਉ ਕਿਛੁ ਥਿਰੁ ਨ ਰਹਾਈ ॥ ਦੇਖਤ ਨੈਨ ਚਲਿਓ ਜਗੁ ਜਾਈ ॥

Kia maago kichh thir na rahaai. Dekhat nain chalio jag jaai.

"What should I ask for? Nothing remains permanent. With my own eyes, I see the world passing away."

ਸਾਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਾਚੁ ਨਾਇ ਭਾਖਿਆ ਭਾਉ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥
